My friend over at Hollywood Housewife is doing a celebrity story link up this Friday, so I decided to write about the one celebrity that makes me lose my head.
It was the summer of 2001, my first summer as a resident of New York City, and one of my best friends from Oklahoma came to visit. We had been planning this trip since the day I moved. Our favorite musician was playing a concert in Central Park and we just had to be there!
(Stole this image, think it is a DMB Concert, they all look the same though)
Now, you should know that when you have a ticket to a Central Park Concert that it is general admission. So... this means you wait in line ALL DAY before going in to find your perfect viewing position. Waiting in the park is not that bad. You can find shade or sun, bring a picnic and blanket and really make a day of it. And make a day of it we did!
We went pretty early to get a spot and just hung around the park all day. About half way through the day is when I lost my marbles... there he was roller blading through the park... shirtless.
TONY DANZA!!!
Yup, that's right! I am OBSESSED!! I LOVE HIM! You would have thought that Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise was roller blading by. I looked like a tween who had just seen that Twilight guy. No, seriously, I jumped up off my blanket and ran as fast as my feet could take me screaming his name. And trust me people, I would do it again because... he waved back at me!! Be still my heart! The crazy part is that I do NOT get star struck. I have worked with and met many a celebrity and I just don't find them to be different than me. Except for Tony Danza. LOVE!!!
As you can imagine, my friend and everyone else in line for the Ani Difranco Concert thought I was crazy. My friend will never let me live this moment down, as I embarrassed her and myself beyond belief. I could not control myself. Anyhow, we attended our concert and went to dinner after... all I could talk about was Tony Danza!!!
HOLD ME CLOSER TONY DANZA!!!
Whitney, this is hilarious! I don't really have a celebrity encounter, I've seen some but I don't think I went crazy over them. I've been thinking about posting about dad's experience with Harrison Ford and flight school but I don't know if I can!
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious! I first thought "Elton John?" lol I still have to think of mine. I dont really have an encounter. I saw Dane Cook last summer, it was cool but wasn't a Tony Danza moment haha.
ReplyDeleteI must tell you ladies that I never get star struck! EVER!! Just by Tony!! Ahhhh.....
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, I did get a tad speechless when I was introduced to J.K. Rowling this spring. But at least that was speechless and not a complete fool!!
This cracked me up. T.D. I couldn't think of who it could be. And never would have guessed.
ReplyDeleteSo funny, Whitney.
Oh, that is awesome. :) I knew immediately who T.D. was. I had a friend who actually thought that the song was "hold me closer Tony Danza" instead of "tiny dancer". For real.

This was hilarious!!! So glad to read your link up from HH!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, this is the most hilarious story EVER. Especially since I know you know how to play it cool when meeting someone gush-worthy. I do not envision "cool" when I think of someone running through the park screaming, "Tony!!"
ReplyDeleteColor me insanely jealous that you've met JK Rowling, though. That's one for the history book. (not that Who's The Boss isn't.)
Whitney!!! I love this!! So funny and glad I read this from the celebrity link ups from Laura's blog...just awesome! What fun you are having in NY!!
