Billy Elliott on Broadway

My Mother came to visit and we did a little bit of musical watching!! It was great!!

On Friday night of Mom's trip we went to see Billy Elliott.
I normally see shows on Broadway that are based around dancing as soon as I can get a ticket. Billy Elliott was different however. I had seen the movie and while I really enjoyed it I just didn't know how much I would enjoy a child driven show on Broadway. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

Hands down my favorite show I have seen on Broadway to date! The choreography in this show was unreal. It was so intricate and no detail was overlooked. The transition scenes are beautifully done. Peter Darling did a fabulous job!!

Now, while the choreography may have been my favorite part (I am a little biased to those things) I was simply amazed by the children in this show. There are TINY children in this show and they hit every single one of their marks without fail! The set moves so much around them they would be injured if they didn't!! All the little girls in the show are adorable with their non-pointed toes and bad lines. I am sure that was all on purpose.
And let me just talk FOREVER about "Billy". OH MY GOSH!!! That is one demanding role! No wonder the part was triple cast in the beginning. And yes, all 3 of those boys deserved the Tony Award they received! This kid acts, dances and sings throughout the entire production and doesn't miss a beat. The only thing I didn't like in the show was when Billy sees himself dancing when he is older. The older Billy was off balance and took me out of the moment. The child Billy was A-MAZE-A-BALLS!!! Simply fantastic!!

There are moments in the show that I never saw coming and I am keeping them to myself because I was crying I was laughing so hard and I do not want to steal that moment for anyone else. I just have one little hint... Shimmy Shimmy Shimmy!!! Ahhhh....

Memphis The Musical

My amazing Mommy came to visit me last week and we went to see 2 wonderful Broadway Shows!!

First show we went to see was the 2010 Tony Winner for Best Musical!
I don't want to give too much away about this fantastic production so I may seem a tad bit vague.

The show opens with a fantastic scene in a Memphis dance club on "the other side of town". I wanted to start dancing the minute the curtain went up. The music is phenomenal! That old 1950s Memphis rock is just too cool for school folks! The dancing was really fun and they had some talented ensemble!

Anyhow, the story line of this show is a white DJ that wants to play black underground rock on the radio. And the usual story line goes from there... boy meets girls, society doesn't approve, careers on the rise... yada yada yada. I will not tell you anymore about the story because I want to you go WATCH the musical.

There were scenes that had me crying so hard that my make-up was being put to the test and according to my mother I laughed so loud the entire theater could hear me! Clearly I loved this show. I left thinking it was one of my favorite shows ever. Go see this show people!! It is AMAZING!!

Hold Me Closer T*** D****

My friend over at Hollywood Housewife is doing a celebrity story link up this Friday, so I decided to write about the one celebrity that makes me lose my head.

It was the summer of 2001, my first summer as a resident of New York City, and one of my best friends from Oklahoma came to visit. We had been planning this trip since the day I moved. Our favorite musician was playing a concert in Central Park and we just had to be there!
(Stole this image, think it is a DMB Concert, they all look the same though)

Now, you should know that when you have a ticket to a Central Park Concert that it is general admission. So... this means you wait in line ALL DAY before going in to find your perfect viewing position. Waiting in the park is not that bad. You can find shade or sun, bring a picnic and blanket and really make a day of it. And make a day of it we did!
We went pretty early to get a spot and just hung around the park all day. About half way through the day is when I lost my marbles... there he was roller blading through the park... shirtless.

TONY DANZA!!!

Yup, that's right! I am OBSESSED!! I LOVE HIM! You would have thought that Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise was roller blading by. I looked like a tween who had just seen that Twilight guy. No, seriously, I jumped up off my blanket and ran as fast as my feet could take me screaming his name. And trust me people, I would do it again because... he waved back at me!! Be still my heart! The crazy part is that I do NOT get star struck. I have worked with and met many a celebrity and I just don't find them to be different than me. Except for Tony Danza. LOVE!!!

As you can imagine, my friend and everyone else in line for the Ani Difranco Concert thought I was crazy. My friend will never let me live this moment down, as I embarrassed her and myself beyond belief. I could not control myself. Anyhow, we attended our concert and went to dinner after... all I could talk about was Tony Danza!!!
HOLD ME CLOSER TONY DANZA!!!
